چکیده

We study the disintegration of nuclei by strong electromagnetic fields induced by ultrarelativistic heavy ions. The proposed multi-step model includes 1) the absorption of a virtual photon by a nucleus, 2) intranuclear cascades of produced hadrons and 3) statistical decay of the excited residual nucleus. The combined model describes well existing data on projectile fragmentation at energy 200 GeV per nucleon. Electromagnetic multifrag-mentation of nuclei is predicted to be an important reaction mechanism at RHIC and LHC energies.

We study static non-axial octupole deformations in proton-rich Z = N nuclei, Ge, Se, Kr, Sr, Zr and Mo, by using the Skyrme Hartree-Fock plus BCS calculation with no restrictions on the nuclear shape. The calculation predicts that the oblate ground state in Se is extremely soft for the Y33 triangular deformation, and that in Zr the low-lying local minimum state coexisting with the prolate groun...

Low energy π emission in hypernuclear weak decays is related to ∆I = 3/2 part of nonmesonic weak decays according to the soft pion theorem. We show that neither meson exchange pictures nor virtual Σ excitation can solve the π emission puzzle. On the other hand, the direct quark mechanism gives the ratio R(π/π : S-wave, soft pion) ≈ 1/4 for 4ΛHe and 5ΛHe. ∗email: [email protected]

In the framework of the time-dependent mean field theory, we solve the Vlasov-Nordheim equation and study the sensitive dependence of this highly non-linear equation on the initial conditions. We find that, when nuclear matter is inside the spinodal region, initially small differences between similar trajectories grow exponentially and produce strongly divergent paths resulting in a chaotic evo...
